News

We will publish news and updates from time to time - to have your say use one of the input forms, or better still join the online Forum*

Going forward the plan is to form a small steering group, with a cross-section of interest and skills, to formulate a plan for the Touring Cyclist Club.

* Most of the Forum is open, public access but there is a Private Area for registered members only where some restricted content is published.

A productive and cordial inaugural meeting of the Touring Cyclist Club took place in Birmingham on Saturday 19 November 2016.

Members from across the country came together to hear about our journey so far and to input ideas and suggestions for the future direction.

Notes of the meeting will be distributed to paid-up TCC members, and a summary published on the TCC Forum and the News section of the website shortly.

We have filled all the available places and have a reserve list - the Ts & Cs for the venue mean that we can't substitute members or admit anyone not on the list - so please don't just turn up!

Minutes of the meeting will be distributed to Touring Cyclist Club paid-up members (only) about 7 days after the meeting

Note: This meeting is an informal, inaugural meeting which had open invitation to club members - it is NOT a statutory meeting in the form of an AGM, SGM, or EGM.

UPDATE : 1430 Tuesday 8 November.   The last places have been snapped up this morning*

We have what we think is a good cross-section of interested people with differing skills and interests acorss the world of cycle touring.

We've had a great response for the inaugural meeting - (as at time of posting) there are 2 places left for the room we have booked . . . if you would like to attend email without delay  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The meeting is on Saturday 19 November 2016, starts at 1300 and ends at 1700 - there will be tea/coffee and cake!   Location is central Birmingham, walking distance from both New Street and Moor Street/Snow Hill stations.

.oOo.

We started out with what we thought was a pretty good idea of what was wanted and interest and enthusiasm from the large number of cyclists that have joined, and the even larger number that have expressed an interest, suggests that we are on the right track.

What we hope to get from the meeting is refinement for the original plan and to get input and support going forward with a team to establish a valid and vibrant club - with, as we have said "no campaigning, politics or discussions on the wearing of helmets - just cycle touring as we know and love it"

Even if you can't attend do please let us have your suggestions for topics to go on the agenda (we already have some from a few of you) -   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  -  by Monday 14 November.

* we did try and book a larger room but there is no availability at the venue.

This message has been broadcast to all Forum registrants, paid-up TCC members and all those that have expressed an interest

This is a REMINDER

The level of interest and number of paid-up members of the Touring Cyclist Club is significant with many ideas put forward and the Forum starting to gain traction.   Promotional leaflets* are now available and a press release sent to both traditional print and digital/online media.

There's still a lot to do so to move forward we are holding an inaugural meeting for Touring Cyclist Club members on the afternoon of Saturday 19 November 2016 in central Birmingham, close to the two main railway stations.

We are compiling the agenda - please let us have your suggestions (even if you aren't able to attend we'd really like to hear from you) - just email   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

The agenda and accompanying notes will be emailed to attendees on Monday 14 November with details of time and venue.

By the conclusion of the meeting we expect to have the formation of a core organising group of individuals that will each have areas of responsibility to take forward.  Initial thoughts are that the roles will cover:
Touring and routes
GPS & mapping
Promotion and club development
Technical
Website (public and member only content)
Forum

- and the following (officers of the Touring Cyclist Club Limited - Company limited by guarantee No 10179055)

Treasurer

The mission of the Touring Cyclist Club is to focus on the pleasures of cycle touring and steer away from "politics, campaigning and [ UPDATE - see below] the wearing of helmets"

In order to book the appropriate room we need to have numbers of attendees - if you are (or will be) a member and wish to attend the meeting please respond to this message by the end of Monday 7 November 2016.

Press Release - 2 November 2016

A NEW Touring Cyclist Club is born

Cycle touring is to ride a bicycle for days, weeks, months or even years as you travel through countryside, towns and cities - even countries.

A new club for Cycle Tourists has been launched this autumn. The Touring Cyclist Club is a club specifically for those who want to tour by bicycle - on road or off road, be it for a few hours, a day or even multiple days exploring the countryside, towns and villages. This new club aims to provide members with what many say is now lacking: useful information, specifically for the increasing number of Touring Cyclists and to put them in contact with each other.

Established March 2016, membership was opened on 5 August 2016  and hundreds have already joined.  From the Isle of Wight to Aviemore, from Canterbury to Belfast - and even Alaska, Touring Cyclist Club members will never be far away from another local member.

The website is the hub of the community, with members already active on the popular forum pages. The founders, Rob Gullen and Dennis Snape, say they will soon be adding more Cycle Touring information to the main website. Sections like UK Touring Routes, Maps, Places to Stay and Technical Information. Members’ Third Party Liability Insurance is in the immediate pipeline.  Some content will be open to public viewing but the real value to members will be in the members’ only area of the website and forum.

The not for profit Touring Cyclist Club is run entirely by unpaid volunteers, purely for the benefit of its Members.  In the words of its founders: ‘The Touring Cyclist Club is here to support and encourage members with resources, shared experiences and the inspiration to have fun touring on a bicycle’    The initial membership fee is just £4.
